The Higher Education Base Funding Review

On 8 December 2011, the Minister for Tertiary Education, Senator Chris Evans, released the final report of the Higher Education Base Funding Review. 

The Panel was asked to make recommendations on the principles for public investment in Australian higher education and inquire into the levels of funding that are appropriate to ensure that Australian higher education remains internationally competitive.

The Government held targeted consultations with stakeholders in February and March 2012 to obtain views from the sector about the principles and recommendations to inform its response.

Submissions

The review received 161 submissions in response to the consultation paper released on 17 December 2010.

Background to the Review

The Higher Education Base Funding Review was announced by the Minister for Tertiary Education, Senator Chris Evans on 26 October 2010. The Base Funding Review was asked to make recommendations on the principles for public investment in Australian higher education and inquire into the levels of funding that are appropriate to ensure that Australian higher education remains internationally competitive.
