On 3 October 2013, research functions relating to universities, infrastructure, grants and fellowships were transferred to the Department of Education through amendments to the Administrative Arrangements Order.
The Department of Industry still remains responsible for a number of programs and initiatives including; Cooperative Research Centres program, Australia-China Science and Research Fund, Australia-India Strategic Research Fund and the Australian Research Committee (ARCom).
